I wish me a long remission…

And now for a public service announcement:

Let’s make Myeloma Matter…

And a cancer carol…

I wish you a long re-mission, I wish you a long re-mission…

I wish ME a long re-mission

And a Happy, New Life.

I got trained in ‘key messaging’ before filming a PSA for Myeloma Canada on Thursday. As in: what do I want people to hear?

Or as Kissinger put it:

Do you have any questions for my answers?

Why am I here?

To Make Myeloma Matter…

Why?

Because I have to remember…its not over yet. Because autumn frost follows the abundance of summer. Because the Jacaranda flowers unblossom and carpet the ground before I can commit them to memory.

Because everything changes. From worse to better. Better to…

Relapse?

While I worked to find the right tone for the 30 second spot, the Benny Hill theme ran through my head: Yakety Sax. Sandra, my makeup girl had played me a youtube snippet with the insidious tune in the green room and the damn music got lodged in my cranium.

Yakety Sax. Look it up.

Incongruous? Maybe. But not entirely inappropriate for the message I was trying to deliver.

Make Myeloma Matter. Quickly please!

John, one of the co-founders of Myeloma Canada, sat behind the monitor. Occassionally he leaned over to the director to offer an opinion on one of the takes. I didn’t speak to him until we took a break and he walked up to me to share his story.

I want you to know I’m a 12 year survivor.

And after I was first diagnosed, there weren’t many of us around.

He meant survivors. Of 10 years or more.

Whoa.

I feel so good now, it’s like it never happened. But that doesn’t mean it never happened.

I have to remember. Because right now, I simply feel like it never happened. I’ve been back to the business of living. Schedules and opportunities. Fielding phone calls and making plans. Stepping out, wearing snugly cut clothes. Posing for the camera…again.

Finding love…

Falling in love…

Yes, I have fallen in love with a man who understands. And who inspires me to be better and to make it all matter…

And he’s the list.

More on the ‘Raja’ later.

Not two months ago, I bought a home in Nelson and planned my retirement.

Now here’s what I’ve been up to

At the beginning of September I flew out to Mumbai to inaugurate the Fortis Cancer Institute, a one stop, comprehensive care facility. Cultural observers will be happy to note that the C- word unanimously inspires dread across the world.

Malvinder and Shivinder Singh, the driving forces behind the Fortis Group of Hospitals are inspired to overhaul the approach towards Cancer Care in India.

Oh yeah.

We also announced the Lisa Ray Fortis, Spirit of Life Award for Cancer Conquerors

Hopefully much more on that later…

I’m pleased to report the fashion commentary on my appearance at this event was mostly positive. Except for my shoes it seems my outfit passed muster.

Incongruous…yes

Making Myeloma sexy? Trying…

Celebrating my ‘graduation’

My Raja, the man who cradles my heart with tenderness and an undeniable sense of belonging, introduced me to this idea…

We are graduates, he tells me. Graduates of the Cancer programme…

And yes. He’s a graduate too.

While I was in India I shot for Elle Magazine with my friend Farrokh, iconic Indian photographer, who has never met a dwarf he doesn’t like and who has a passion for aviation, though he doesn’t like to leave the ground. Farrokh and I have known each other for twenty plus years, and when I was in India weeks after my stem cell, he inadvertently became my primary care giver and wrangler. One day he escorted me from Jaslok hospital, bandaged and step-tripping after an operation to excise the nasty crop of cysts on my eyelids known as chalazion which were another fallout from chemo and soon afterwards, he took pictures. Restored to sight, and he recorded the moment. A gesture which was both compassionate and enpowering for me.

So its only fitting that the images he captured of me in early September will make the cover of the magazine. I am proud of the images. Are they about Cancer? No. They are about celebrating my graduation.

Thank you Nonita for lobbying to put images of an almost 40 year old graduate on the cover of a beauty magazine.

And…

I will be speaking at an Evening Celebrating Science for the McEwan Centre for Regenerative Medicine on September 23rd in Toronto.

Basically, taking stem cell talk out of the lab, onto the streets.

Taking the miracle, the promise out on the streets.

Why?

Without stem cell research, I would not be here.

And if you saw what I did, in the labs, through the microscope, you’d feel like using both hands to scoop those secrets out into the world

I’m just saying…

So I’m feeling fine. I’m drug free, out of choice and because there’s no conclusive compelling evidence to prove that remaining on ‘maintenance therapy’ will prolong my remission.

I’ll do that on my own.

Well, not entirely on my own.

With my Raja.

And you.

  3. Our Dearest Lisa,

It feels like the sun is gloriously simmering on you and that every sunflower is in full-bloom again.

What makes it grander is that this tingling Lightness of Being of yours spills on me wondrously. And I’m assured that it has the same effect for everyone here. Your ‘Yellow Beam’ is contagious and there is nothing like it!

I’m also happy to know that you have found a new love… as cheesy as this may sound, your Happiness is My/our happiness.

Also, I’m utterly pleased that ‘Lisa Corp’ is now on a full-throttle business and in a more Powerful & Enlightened way.

I trust that The Universe has already granted your Wish and that we will all be journeying with you for a very, VERY long time.

Like you to know that my suitcase and bag are permanently packed for that long- yellow voyage with you.

    In Hindi,
“Thakkar baithne waalo ki jai jai kar nahi hoti
Koshish karne waalo ki kabhi haar nahi hoti”

Those who put effort, never lose.

    Lisa,
I am an unconditional anonymous fan of yours from the “Afreen” days to “Garden” days to the “Star movies show” to “Kasoor” to “your latest avatar”.
It pains my heart, but at the same time I have become a even greater fan of yours. Salute your never die spirit.

    As Amitabh Bacchan once said,
“If something happens according to you wishes, it’s good. But if something happens against your wishes it’s even better. As that has been thought for you by the supreme being.”

In the ‘process’, I think you have discovered something very important, which is ”the purpose” of one’s stay on this planet’
I guess you have found the purpose of your life. It’s a noble one.
I too have chucked my comfortable life and working hard to pursue ‘the purpose’ of my life.
As a fellow admirer of Buddhism, I think you are well on your way to the ‘noble eightfold path’.
God bless you. Don’t stop. Be who you are. Keep pushing yourself.
Btw, I liked Yakety Sax. It’s so full of life and zest :) !
PS: (If you feel like it, you may drop two-three words as reply to my mail, it will mean world to me !)

The dalai Lama – “The World Will Be Saved By the Western Woman”

Situations happen in a life to awaken the minority privileged, to be aware of it’s importance, and then only a special few to completely follow and dedicate their whole being to that path.
For you to live in a mass media persona where the body beautiful is the ego of existence, then to become completely open and naked in such a perceived world, has a true vision on this planet. To be able to perceive all intent as love, to experience all the positive and negativity to that situation and to project it as pure unconditional love to CANCER CURED… To awaken the world to the suppressed who’s importance on this world is the salvation. To consciously project that unconditional  love to the betterment of the whole world is truly remarkable.

  12. Hey Lisa,
Your are such a great person and I love reading ur diaries – you make them very excited to read :D please tell us, when is your next movie?
By the way, I loved your movies with Sheetal Sheth – you make great harmony together and I think, you both give a special touch to any movie too. I just hope you are gonna collaborate together in a 3rd movie :D take good care of your health dear.

my sister have got sclerosis multiplex.wich is not a terminate illness but quite weird as well.wen she was diagnosted and felt bad i expected from her to act. to struggle to be strong and find some alternative way. but she could not somehow. my expectations appeared to be more agressive and this brought her down and deep to the darkness…and so did me. we both got desperate and the devile cycle had been closed.
one day i made my usual trip to the mountains. i went down to the river and watched it flowing. than i got a strong hit. fascinating by the stones beeng washed and molded by the water..without any expectations of the river to chage its flowing way. i started to shame. i shamed a lot….for the absence of the nature and love in my life´s space.
we are living in a world of expectations. we expect from other people that…and we push them. we even expect blindly and uncompromisingly only the best of ourselves.
this places us far away of the centre, rotating on the out side the circle…” mary-go-rounding”… not to be able to influence anything…beeing to busy by cutching the chains.
you hit the point, fell to…landed in the centre again.
I am convinced that there is no more space for the cancer in you life.

    High respect for your courage!

    wish you ALL the best.
P.S.: you have amazing sence of humor and self irony…love it.

“We are spiritual beings having a physical experience”
Is a quote, made by Miss Lisa Rani Ray on her twitter page…
    A fly in my brain?…intriguing…but…

My mind is  quite simple, and there’s  only one thing I have on my mind, to KISS…. Keep It Simply Simple…

Life is light,  the food you eat gives out light when it’s digested. Different foods have different light colour.  Because of energy vibrating at different levels it resonates colours. Colours are information for the mind to perceive inwardly and to project outwardly.  Every cell in the body communicates with each other by light. They send light through one another which pass information on to the brain.  Cells need light information to understand their function, but sometimes they lack light the messages aren’t received  and no information is sent.  When we fall ill, our cell are letting the brain know they need light.  Don’t fight the illness, fighting only causes more resistance. Focus on the cells needed for Health and growth. Visualise sending the bright pure light to the cells, organs the whole inner being and love them, nourish them, send them strength and see the healthy cell multiply.  Shower them with  love, the light colour of love is Green.

Hey Indigo’flow…the fly was metaphorical-cliché in fact…I have my own brain to contend with…be flattered…and stay intrigued; it is more exciting.

Re: Light+Food+Colour+Cells=Good Health. So the school lunch I see the students eating: microwave “Hot Pockets” and the 2 flies fighting over their untouched radiated gray broccoli, translate into a hodgepodge of indistinctness, causing their wonderful young cells great confusion, strain and a greater probability for the predisposition of disease.

Radiation is ironic. Also, man’s light.

P.S. Sorry for another fly reference…I really hate flies…in the Deep South, I remember, more often than not, fighting them over a bite of cold watermelon.

    @ d2….
    For me, what is spirit?….

     keep it light, ok…

    My Spirit is….Karma

Karma, not as a punishment from god as it seems to be portrayed today, (god doesn’t punish) but as a reaction to action… God gave us free will, and our choices are ours… We can choose our path by following between the ego or will power…

The Ego path is guided by the biblical 7 deadly sins…  Pride, Envy, Wrath, Laziness, Greed, Gluttony, Lust…

The will power is guided by, the betterment of the self and humanity….

    The choice is yours….
To attain spiritual enlightenment we have to demolish the ego, have no part in it, no Pride, Envy, Wrath, Laziness, Greed, Gluttony, Lust… Every action has a consequence, and the consequence is far greater than the action.. We harvest what we sow.  So lightly putting it, we can choose now to follow ego receive the law of action, attraction, reaction and keep returning to clear it, or clear it now and move to the next realm… What we decide is entirely up to us….

  31. Indigo'flow

     /  October 4, 2010

    d2,
What does spirit mean to you?

  32. Indigo'flow

     /  October 4, 2010

By karma I don’t mean the concept of having a past life, going around committing inhumane acts killing and murdering everyone I see then pay for it in this life… These acts are far beyond my comprehension,  I mean consciously desiring (ego) a cream cake, knowing it’s going to make me fat, knowing my inner being really doesn’t want it, it would rather have a slice of fruit, not using my will power and stuffing the cake in my mouth regardless… I suffer the consequence of an extra 1 1/2 hour at the gym + a possible heart attack (because of the cake or the gym)… We are responsible for our actions that we are Consciously conscience of.

  33. d2

     /  October 4, 2010

    Indigo’flow:

Actually some of your aforementioned, I posted similar ideas, not as specific, in “Anniversaries” (July Archives). I discuss LR’s gifts of wisdom and discernment and not everyone is granted access. I agree with you, there needs to be a clearance for anew. Spirit conquers flesh (ego).

Spirit for me is that abstract force that works as the Generator to convert the Energy reacting to Vibrations appearing to be Matter perceived by the imagination of the conscious mind. Since perception is relatively ambiguous, the role of a freewill belief system in a higher intelligence secures that certainty and feeds it power.

We are truly complex ego driven life forms. Per the late, MLK, Jr., even the newborn baby wants to be #1. On many levels as a whole, the human species share a lot of commonalities. On the flip side, each matter makeup utilizes space, and is uniquely individual. And what separates us from the animals above all is our capacity to change the world. Based on a newly universally designed system, collectively, we could rid the planet of famine, disease, poverty and attain world peace.

Creative domino effect: if in every society people were given the freedom to think and manifest their inner selves, the Consciously conscience you speak of, without judgment and ridicule…as a result, lessened suppression. Thus, a reduction in the deadly 7; boasts the reinvention of beauty, freedom and life as it should be-happiness grandeur…

Last night after watching “1 A Minute LIVE Supporting Susan G. Komen for the Cure,” I felt empowered as a woman. On the ride on home, invincibility ran through my veins.

To the brave gems who shared their sometimes insurmountable journey, much appreciation for their candor and heart…in front of the camera, speaking from one soul to another. And thank you for that.

The film is pure, sensitively raw, emotional, powerful and realistic. It is tender-minded. It is smart. It is spiritual.

I have much admiration for the film’s creator, Namrata Singh Gujral-cancer Survivor and a Pugilist in her own right; she commands and demands willpower from the Divine Light.

Do we really have one life?
Einstein concluded in his later years that the past, present and future all exist simultaneously…  he completely rejected the separation we experience as the moment of now. He believed there is no true division between past, present  and future –there is rather a single existence. Time is relative, no one is in real time, there is a delay of 8 minutes 19  seconds when we see the sunlight, our brain knows 6 seconds before we do.  If tomorrow a new star is to be discovered and it’s light takes so long to reach us and has already died before we see it,  we are seeing the past in our future ….

Space and time are a singular entity that is warped by mass.  That an object such as the Earth does indeed distort the fabric of space and time.  Just as a bowling ball placed on a trampoline stretches the fabric and causes it to sag, so planets and stars warp space-time.

Einstein’s frame-dragging theory is,  as the world spins it drags the fabric of the universe behind it.  The earth spins on her axis at 1048 mph and orbits  the sun at 18.5 miles per second.
Everything has energy, matter and conscious.  Energy is the earths spin and drag, matter the earth and you are the conscious.  I’m no mathematician or physicist but that must create a lot of energy, and because of your conscious actions  whether it be visual, emotional or physical, negative or positive, reacts and attracts that energy.

    To Indigo’flow>>>
In your post of Sept. 14th, you describe the act of love for another person/s as truly seeing something in that person/s that one loves and sees in him/herself and that unconditional love has nothing to do with the outside stimuli (the person/s)…so, my question, do you think we ever really love another outside of ourselves without this relative association and incentive? Or perhaps I misunderstood. Please explain.
    Thanks.

    Wouldn’t that border on narcissism?

    Yes but,….
That depends on the intent behind the action (love).  Are we working from ego or our innermost?

If from ego, we see part of their persona that our ego desires and once that desire has been met, our persona (ego) can change and searches for another desire… But this has a energy attached (karma)  which is why we have to be present with every action.  We have to perceive the perception of that perception to know where the intent is projected from.
Narcissism? Yes if from the ego

If from the innermost we love that being with unconditional love regardless of their persona, but  just project inwardly and outwardly unconditional love regardless.  A projection of love for all humanity without condition. And the same energy attached (karma)
Narcissism? No for the love of all that is. The infinite being

This also applies for it’s opposite (hate) what we hate in someone comes from ego but is part of their persona we posses.  We have to perceive the perception of the perception understand it and conquer it to be able to project it with unconditional love.

(Indigo’flow), today is Columbus Day…a celebration for someone who discovered something that had already been discovered and actually he was looking for India and stumbled upon America; thus, calling the Natives, “Indians.” Give me a break. Pro-Columbus folk, send all hate mail to: I don’t care, PO Box Idon’tcare, Care Nowhere, 77777
    (just kidding)

you say, …we hate in someone comes from ego but is part of their persona we possess…so when someone hates me because of my skin color (black) it’s because they see themselves in me? How are you defining persona? I’m not clear.
